Entry-Level Bikes-Kawasaki Ninja 300 vs. Honda CBR250R

New riders are popping up all the time. In the motorcycle manufacturing world, it is a coveted market. These precious new customers are looking for a beginning bike, and their first experience could direct them into one company’s reign for their entire motorcycle riding career.

For years, the only beginner bike around that was an acceptable option was Kawasaki’s Ninja 300. You rode that as a first bike, or nothing. Then finally in 2011, mighty Honda decided to step up and take their best shot and challenge them with their debut model of the CBR250R. It was not a bad bike, and they certainly showed their innovation and ability to compete, but it still was not comparable to the Ninja 300.

Fast forward two years to 2013, and here we are with yet another year newer model from each company. As stated before, there is fierce competition to pull these new riders in, and these two top dogs are relentless when pulling out all the stops this year. Here at Apache Motorcycles, we are going to compare some of the basic features of the two models.

To get into the meat of it, the comparison of the highs and lows of each is what people really care about. The Honda CBR250R has very nimble handling, which comes in handy during low-speed maneuvering and traffic; perfect for a commute. Has great gas mileage, and the seat is much more comfortable than the Ninja 300. Some of the low points include the 250 single engine making the bike feel pretty slow. Also, it does not have the great extras like the Ninja 300 does, like the slipper clutch.

Now as for the Ninja 300, some of the strong points of the 2013 model include the 300 twin engine, making it feel much faster than the 250 single engine. The slipper clutch on an entry-level bike is a perfect add-on, and the new engine delivers less of a buzz, making it feel more refined. As for the lows, the seat is very uncomfortable for long rides, and can get frustrating. The front brake lacks a lot of the bite of the Honda model, and overall the bike can run more expensive than the oft-wanted under $5K price tag.

Although Honda is constantly improving year after year, overall, the 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300 is still superior to the 2013 Honda CBR250R when it comes down to the basic features.
